Beverly Chick, an online biography, bookcrossing.com online book club website, 1996
Lawrence Bradshaw, Curator, Professor of Art, Upstream People Gallery, 12th Annual Judeo-Christian Juried Online Art Exhibit, 2010:
Beverly Chick of Boise, Idaho masters watercolor and colored pencil with a rich textural treatment in her piece “Angel Aura”. The fluidity and softness of the clothing and hair and of course the serenity of the face looking upwards is quite beautiful. This is contrasted to the more roughly treated surrounding of complementary coloration. Also quite nice is the powerful effects created in “Three Crosses - John 3:16”.
Carey Parrish, Editor of Web Digest Weekly, 2008:
"Your work is astonishing in its detail and clarity....Having seen your gallery I am now a big fan!"

What makes my colored pencil work unique is it doesn’t look like colored pencil. My work started out looking like traditional colored pencil, but I didn’t really like that look. It looked too stiff and rigid to me. So I started using techniques like using solvents and combining colored pencil with other media like acrylic and watercolor. Colored pencil & turpenoid (odorless turpentine) is a combination of drawing and painting. I first put down the colored pencil. Then I take a cotton swab and dip it in turpenoid, and swish in over the colored pencil like a paintbrush. This breaks down the layers of wax that is in the colored pencil and makes it look like watercolor or acrylic. These techniques give a much softer, painted look. I find that working with more than one medium allows me more creative and artistic freedom and it adds new dimensions to my work.
I like to experiment with certain techniques that I have found other artists using. Jackson Pollock is known for his paint spattering patterns and I occasionally use this technique in my work. I am also very inspired by the impressionists so I sometimes like to add just a touch of Monet-like impressionism to my work, letting the viewer’s imagination fill some of the details.
Animals, particularly cats, fascinate me and I feel a strong bond with them. Animals seem to have their own God-given beauty and charm. I love the beauty of a swan’s wingspread and its reflection on the water, as portrayed in my painting, “Smooth Landing.” A continuing theme to my work is capturing the funny and natural things animals do and capturing their personalities on paper. I like to portray animals & wildlife in terms of how they relate to us and our environment, as well as how they relate to each other in their own world.
Animals and nature/landscapes have the power to inspire and renew the human spirit. When I go on a vacation and see wildlife and breathtaking mountain scenery, I want to capture the wonder and inspiration I see and put it into my art. There is a simplicity there that cuts through the claustrophobia of clutter that is sometimes our lives and helps us to get back to the basics of what is really important.
