NEW BEAUTY AND THE BEAST THEME ART PORTRAITS

During a semester break from college, The "art fairy" (or muse) got me and I was inspired to do some portraits based on the old 80's television series, Beauty and the Beast with Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman.  I was a huge fan of the show. Recently I rediscovered some of my old dusty B&B VCR tapes and a a Beauty and the Beast CD with music and poetry.  This gave me some really fun ideas for a new portrait and I became very motivated to do some B&B artwork.

The portrait on the left is called 'O Sweetest Song.' The actual portrait extends more to the left and right sides than this shows.

The portrait is made with colored pencil & Turpenoid but the rest of it is a collage.  I used parts of sheet music from the theme song to Beauty and the Beast, and at the bottom I have two lines of poetry from the series.  The rose is a photocopy of a watercolor I painted many years ago.

The poem says, "Across what instrument have we been spanned? And what violinist holds us in his hands?  O Sweetest Song."

Prints of this can be purchased for $14.00 plus postage.  The print is 16 X 11 in size.

Another Beauty & The Beast romantic portrayal of Vincent and Catherine called "Moonglow."  It is a mixed media piece made with colored pencil, Turpenoid, acrylic and pastel.  This is very different from what I usually do and it was a lot of fun to create.

Prints of this can be purchased for $9.00 plus postage.

"Moonglow"

This Beauty & The Beast Portrait is called, "Thy Sweet Love Remember'd."  It is based on a Shakespeare sonnet that is one of my favorite poems.  It is also a mixed media piece made with colored pencil, Turpenoid, glitter paint and collage.

"Thy Sweet Love Remember'd"

This pencil portrait from Beauty & The Beast is something I did way back in 1989.  I resurrected it and added the glitter and the poem.  The quotation is from a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke: "Whitely, he stole up to a maid--to be within the silver mirror and in her."

You will note that I posted two versions of this piece. Version two has some transparent paper called Vellum or Duralar that gives the art a 3-D look.  I thought it looked cool, so I added it.

My portrait of Katharine Hepburn (see "Celebrity Portraits" below) is featured on the home page of the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center and Theater blog site:  www.katharinehepburntheater.org

This blog site was created by Ann Nyberg.  Ann is on the Board of Trustees for the soon to open (in July 2009) Hepburn Cultural Arts Center in Old Saybrook, Connecticut.

Ann emailed me in December and asked if she could use my portrait of Kate on her blog site and I said yes.  Apparently, she had seen it on the Web Digest Weekly online newsletter.

These celebrities happen to be some of my favorites from the "Golden Age" of  Hollywood.  With the exception of the Bogart portrait, which I did when I was in college many years ago, all these were done recently and now hang in the downstairs of my house, which has been turned into a TV/entertainment room with an old-time Hollywood movie theme.

"Extras" are things like pet toys, personal items and special backgrounds.  There is an extra charge for these.  Prices are general "ball park"and may fall outside the range given if there are a lot of extra images, etc.

I do portraits mostly from photographs, preferably more than one.  These need to be provided by you.  You can mail them to me or send by email.  If you want a pet portrait and you live nearby and don't have any photos of your pet, I can come over and take the photos myself.  If you are providing the photos, make sure they are good photos that are clear, in focus and show lots of detail without a lot of shadows.

I prefer not to do two originals of the same photo.  If you want me to create two originals of the same person, they need to be from two different  photos.  I no longer do 5 X 7 size portraits.  (They are too small and I don't want to do miniature portraits.)

If client requests a portrait with lots of extras (special backgrounds, multiple images, etc.) I will present a printed estimate of the costs before starting the portrait that lists the individual charges and the final total.  There is a 6% sales tax for Idaho residents.
